Ulrike Brand ist Cellistin, Performerin und Komponistin. Auf dem Cello hat sie neue Spieltechniken und eine eigene Klangwelt entwickelt. Ihre Projekte gehen grenzüberschreitenden in die Bereiche Sprache, Tanz und Performance und in die Zusammenarbeit mit bildenden Künstler:innen. Ihre Kompositionen sind im Zwischenbereich von improvisierter und notierter Musik angesiedelt. Sie schreibt Essays und hält Workshops und Gastvorlesungen.  Von 1987 bis 1997 war sie künstlerische Leiterin der Quaderni Perugini di Musica Contemporanea in Perugia, Italien. 2016 war sie Stipendiatin im Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf. Sie erhielt zahlreiche Förderstipendien von verschiedenen Institutionen. Seit 2018 ist sie Lehrbeauftragte für Improvisation an der Universität der Künste Berlin.

Vocations – open space 2024 organises four evenings of radically open transdisciplinary experiments and collaborations at the interface between music, sound and poetry at silent green Kulturquartier’s event space Kuppelhalle (29.5. / 8.7. / 9.10. / 3.12.). As a meeting place for Berlin’s contemporary poetry and music scenes, Vocations offers an open space to up to twenty artists to perform at any one time, combining a wide variety of musical and vocal practices based on or rooted in poetry.
