Asta Fanney Sigurðardóttir (c) Gulli Mar

Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir, born in 1987 in Reykjavík, Iceland, is a practising visual artist as well as a composer, musician and singer. She is widely considered one of her country‘s most innovative poetry performers. Her first collection of poetry, „Eilífðarnón“ (Island Verlag 2019), was also published in English as „Forevernoon“ (Partus Press (UK) 2022, translated by Vala Thorodds). Ásta was a founding member of the art gallery Kunstchlager. In 2017 she was the recipient of the prestigious annual Ljóðstafur Jóns úr Vör poetry prize for a single unpublished poem. She has taken part in a variety of performances blending together music, visual art and poetry, and is a member of the electro-pop trio aiYa. Her latest book is called „Gluggi – draumskrá“ (2021, Eng.: Window – Dream Register) and contains a list of dreams.

A meeting of two generations is taking place during this poetry talk: Kirils Ēcis (born 2000 in Riga) is the youngest poet of the international program and Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir (born 1987 in Reykjavik) is one of the most important voices in Icelandic poetry. What unites their poetic practices is a love of experimentation and the use of different artistic disciplines.
