Negroni, María

María Negroni, born in Rosario in 1951, is a writer, literature lecturer and translator. In her numerous volumes of poetry, essays and novels, she transcends genre boundaries. For Negroni, the “poetic word is transversal, anonymous and disorienting. That is why it is unexpectedly political and necessary”. Several of her books, including “Islandia” (Station Hill Press 2001, translated by Anne Twitty), „Night Journey“ (Princeton University Press 2002, translated by Anne Twitty) and “The Mouth of Hell” (Action Books 2013, translated by Michelle Gil-Montero) have appeared in English translation. She has been awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship for Poetry and the Siglo XXI International Essay Prize. She currently directs the Master’s programme in Creative Writing at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (Buenos Aires province), where she also teaches. In 2024 she will be a guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
