Ursula Krechel, born in Trier in 1947, lives in Berlin. She writes poetry, novels, essays and plays. She has taught at the Berlin University of the Arts, Washington University in St. Louis and Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva. She is a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts, the German Academy of Language and Poetry in Darmstadt and Vice-President of the Academy of Science and Literature in Mainz. She has received numerous awards for her novels “Shanghai fern von wo”, “Landgericht” and “Geisterbahn”, including the Joseph Breitbach Prize, the German Book Prize and the Jean-Paul Prize. “Beileibe und zumute ist” is her 16th volume of poetry.
