Thomas Mortesá Hashemi (c) Claudia Hashemi

Thomas Mortesá Hashemi lives in Berlin and works as a teacher of German and philosophy at a school in Berlin-Wedding. He writes poetry and is active in the fields of poetry education and poetry criticism, including as a member of Netzwerk Lyrik e.V. and as a multiple participant in the Akademie für Lyrikkritik. His poetry deals with questions of identity and belonging, with Near- and Far Eastern philosophy and dealing with illness and care work. After individual publications in anthologies, his debut collection will be published by ELIF Verlag in autumn 2024.

Working mothers, old loves, various languages and a sleeping Persian haunt the poems of this evening. Sound plays a crucial role in evoking the absent. A word echoes through the next, one language slumbers in another. Origins remain perceptible as latent vibrations. In some places, silence drips through leaks in the language. Loop stations and sound objects create atmospheres and let text parts float through the Brotfabrik courtyard.
