Ulrike Draesner, born in Munich in 1962, writes poetry, fiction and essays. She lives in Berlin and in Leipzig, where she holds a professorship for Creative Writing at the Deutsche Literaturinstitut Leipzig. Her work has been honoured many times, most recently the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Prize 2024. Her latest book is the novel “Die Verwandelten” (Penguin 2023).

While the great old beech tree that gave this beautiful and traditional festival venue its name rustles its leaves in the summer wind, some of the poets from the Academy of Arts’ literature section will read their poems for us at Buchengarten: Volker Braun, Ann Cotten, Ulrike Draesner, Ursula Krechel, Monika Rinck and Kathrin Schmidt.
