Every summer, international poetry finds new locations throughout the city at poesiefestival berlin: be it in a Neukölln workshop, a warehouse on Eiswerder Island, a circus tent in Hohenschönhausen, the Marzahn City Library or the garden of the Berlin Academy of Arts, poets perform and read everywhere and temporarily establish new Poets’ Corners. This year’s central festival venue is silent green Kulturquartier in Wedding.

Poets and musicians will read, sing, perform and reflect their practices at the festival during established reading nights such as Weltklang – Night of Poetry or the Berlin Poetry Lecture as well as in new formats such as Vocations. While afternoons offer the opportunity to get to know poets and their work intimately in poetry talks, evening events with larger panels will address socio-political topics such as Writing Class, Writing Identities, Writing Histories and Writing Change. On the final weekend of the festival, a poetry market opens, numerous poets perform at free outdoor readings and Poetry in Education offers a wide range of activities for families with workshops for all age groups.

Since 2000, poesiefestival berlin has invited international poets to Berlin and presented current trends in contemporary poetry. It is the largest poetry festival in Europe and one of the most important poetry events worldwide. poesiefestival berlin is a project of Haus für Poesie and is supported by Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
