To Have Been A Part (Where Are We Today…) uses spoken recordings of a selection of comments from online videos documenting British raves of the 1980s and 90s. Set with collaged sound elements, they can be experienced via a loudspeaker in the form of a site-specific sound installation on the grounds of the Tresor nightclub.
The work interprets these comments as echoes of the origins of the rave movement, with the comments themselves offering intimate insights into the historical narrative and ongoing spirit of rave culture through their memories and by mourning lost innocence and faded dreams.
These conversations allow access to the origins of rave culture, while the nuances of this intergenerational discourse show how memory can be approached, shared and made visible.
