Ralph Tharayil is a Swiss writer of South Indian descent primarily working through text that takes shape in print matter, performances, installations and audio. His debut novel “Nimm die Alpen weg” (Roll back the Mountains) was published in February 2023 with Voland & Quist, edition Azur in Berlin. It was awarded the Alfred Döblin-Medal and the Terra Nova Prize by Switzerland’s Schiller Foundation. His German translation of Kopano Maroga’s poetry collection “Jesus Thesis and Other Critical Fabulations” was published with Akono in 2023. In the next season Ralph will be a writer in residence at Bühnen Bern where “Roll back the Mountains” will have its premier in September. Ralph lives in Berlin.
