Matthias Nawrat was born in Opole/Poland in 1979. He studied biology, then literary writing. He has published five novels, most recently “Der traurige Gast” (2019) and “Reise nach Maine” (2021). His poetry collection entitled “Gebete für meine Vorfahren” was published in 2022 and the essay collection “Über allem ein weit Himmel – Nachrichten aus Europa” in 2024. He was recently honoured with the European Union Prize for Literature and the Fontane Literaturpreis of the city of Neuruppin and the state of Brandenburg for his books. He lives in Berlin.
